Interpreting VLB CoAs

What it means.

Sample Name

Identifies the product being tested, including packaging, batch, and expiry date.

It also explains sampling and enrichment steps.

Yeasts

Test for wild yeasts that could contaminate beer. Grown on Lysine agar, which selects for wild yeast over brewing strains.

It should be 0.

In addition to plating, the sample underwent liquid enrichment using YM + CuSO₄ (yeast mold broth with copper sulfate), followed by analysis for S. cerevisiae var. diastaticus.

It should be negative.

Beer Lactobacilli & Beer Pediococci

Test for lactobacillus and pediococcus, spoilage bacteria common in brewing , using VLB-S7-S agar, which allows these specific bacteria to grow.

It should be 0.

Total Counts

 (E. coli / coliform bacteria) General hygiene/sanitation test. using Standard Agar + Actidione (antifungal) to suppress yeast and isolate all bacteria.
